Šalčininkai region municipality is located in the south-eastern part of the country, at the border with Belarus. The region has borders with Vilnius, Trakai and Varėna regions. The southern and eastern borders coincide with the Lithuanian-Belarus state border. The total area of Šalčininkai region is 1419,4 sq. km. According to the data received in 2020 there are 435 small and average companies in Šalčininkai region. The most common occupational fields are as follows: wholesale and retail trade, agriculture, logistics and warehousing, forestry and manufacturing.
Forests occupy 43,77 % of the region land and it is 1,5 times more than average in Lithuania. Meanwhile industry and transport occupy 2,41 % of the area.
