World Courier, the global leader in specialty logistics and part of AmerisourceBergen, will open an office in Lithuania in December this year, making the company the first specialty logistics provider with an in-country facility. This presence will allow World Courier to better service the growing demand within the Baltic region.
The new office will primarily focus on transport services in the local market, while also operating a finance shared service centre. World Courier will manage time and temperature-sensitive shipping requirements for pharmaceutical healthcare organisations, as well as those in critical industries like automotive, logistics as well as oil and gas.
“World Courier has seen a growing demand from customers to be present in the Baltic region,” said Jens Mattuschka, World Courier’s Regional Vice President for Nordics, Central & Eastern Europe. “Lithuania offers us a perfect knot, a well established logistics infrastructure and builds a great connector into the Baltic countries, Poland, Scandinavia, Belarus and Russia.”
“Our strategy is to serve our customers and expand our services after an integration of this office into our 140+ global office network,” added Mattuschka.
“World Courier’s decision to expand operations into Lithuania makes a huge impact not only in global business services sector, but also to other industries and investment climate of Lithuania,” said Mantas Katinas, Director General of the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency Invest Lithuania. “Medical devices and biotechnology sectors were growing really fast recent years and with new investors it will definitely grow even faster. The services of World Courier are an essential part for further development of these sectors”.
World Courier is currently finalising the recruitment of a specialist team to manage the Lithuanian office. This team is expected to grow as World Courier’s services expand.
